The newly installed youth chief of the Prampram traditional area, Nene Teye Nartey I, has reaffirmed his commitment to working with various youth groups in the community to empower them through income-generating projects.
Unveiling his development plan for the area shortly after his enstoolment, Nene Nartey I acknowledged the challenges facing the youth in the Prampram Traditional Area.
He pledged to collaborate with various groups to find practical solutions.
To this end, he has invited assembly members, youth groups, and opinion leaders in the area for a meeting to gather their ideas and work towards his objectives.
Nene Teye Nartey I expressed deep gratitude to the Paramount Chief, Nene Tetteh Wakah III, for entrusting him with the responsibility of serving as the Youth Chief of Prampram.
He recognised the significant responsibilities associated with the role and vowed to uphold the values and traditions of the Prampram Traditional Area.
He stated that his leadership would be guided by the wisdom of the Paramount Chief and the collective input of the community.
During an open discussion, assembly members raised concerns about the alarming increase in drug abuse among the youth, which has led to a rise in criminal activities in the town.
They expressed deep concern for the future of Prampram’s younger generation and urged the Youth Chief to take swift action.
In response, the Youth Chief assured the assembly members that he was aware of the situation and already taking steps to address it.
He highlighted that his leadership would focus on creating more opportunities for the youth, including educational and vocational training programs to steer them away from negative influences.
He also mentioned plans to strengthen collaborations with local law enforcement and community leaders to curb drug abuse and associated criminal activities.
Another critical issue discussed was the ongoing tension between various groups within the town, which could potentially disrupt the peace and harmony that Prampram is known for, especially with the Homowo festival approaching.
Nene Nartey I called for unity and cooperation among all factions, emphasizing the importance of the Homowo festival as a time for celebration and reflection.
He urged everyone to come together to ensure the event’s success.
He also assured the assembly that he would work closely with traditional leaders, including Asafoatse Djaban IV and Sentse Ablade of the Kley division, who were in attendance, to mediate and resolve any conflicts that may arise.
