Veteran Ghanaian artiste Jah Lead has revealed that he struggled with depression following the death of his lover.
The musician, who had been living in Germany, disclosed that he had been away from the public eye for over a year and a half, struggling to come to terms with her passing.
“I was going through depression, but thanks to God, I have found my feet again. At some point, I thought I would stop singing because of how much it affected me,” he shared.
Contrary to reports that the late Nana Ekua Essel was his wife, Jah Lead has clarified that she was his baby mama whom he shares a son with.
He explained that his wife is still alive and resides in Ghana. However, he admitted that his extramarital affair caused significant turmoil in his family, and he takes full responsibility for the consequences.
The most painful part of her passing, he said, was that he was not in the country when it happened and she was nursing their five-month-old son.
While he remains reluctant to speak extensively on the matter, he hinted that his upcoming highlife album will capture his emotions and experiences surrounding the tragedy.
