Former Chief of Staff in the Jerry John Rawlings administration, Nana Ato Dadzie says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost the 2016 elections because of the campaign messages delivered by some of its leaders.
According to him, the party lost the election because its campaign messages were channeled towards infrastructural problems of the citizenry instead of the basic needs of the people.
Former President, John Mahama who was the flagbearer of the NDC in the 2016 elections suffered a massive defeat in the polls.
Akufo-Addo obtained a staggering 5,716,609 of total votes cast in the 2016 elections, representing 53.84%, to snatch the Presidency from John Mahama, who secured 4,713,277 votes (44.40%).
The NDC also lost more than 40 parliamentary seats to the NPP. This performance is the worst in the party’s history since 1992.
Reacting to the defeat of the party, Nana Ato Dadzie noted that despite official findings put forward by the Kwesi Bocthwey Committee, he believes campaign messages of the NDC were never properly understood by Ghanaians and that led to their gargantuan defeat.
Nana Atto Dadzie however called on the party to to focus its 2020 manifesto on solving the basic needs of Ghanaians than wasting their time on infrastructure needs.
