The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reiterated its commitment to tackling illegal mining activities and stressed that no individual, regardless of their status or political affiliation, will be exempt from consequences if found guilty of environmental violations.
Prof. Nana Ama Klutse, Acting CEO of the EPA, made this statement during an interview on Channel One TV, emphasizing the agency’s dedication to protecting the environment.
“We will focus on our mandate to protect the environment and coordinate all activities that affect it. We need to protect the environment no matter who is involved, whether legally or illegally,” she said.
Prof. Klutse further explained that the EPA monitors environmental activities and responds to complaints from both communities and companies, assuring the public that any reports of illegal mining would be thoroughly investigated, and offenders would be held accountable.
While the agency has not received complaints about politicians being involved in illegal mining, she emphasized that if any politician is found to be involved, the law will be applied equally.
“If any politician is involved in illegal mining, and we get hold of the person, we will still apply the law as we would to any other Ghanaian,” she asserted.
