A police officer has been reportedly shot dead by suspected armed robbers at Sefwi Asempanye in the Sefwi Wiawso area of the Western North Region.
The deceased, General Sergeant Emmanuel Chikudoh, was killed Tuesday while escorting a Nissan Hard Body bullion van with registration number GT 9436-17.
The van was loaded with cash and heading for an ADB Bank branch at Sefwi Wiawso when it came under attack at Sefwi Asempanye.
According to a police daily situation report (SITREP), the Acting Manager of Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) of Sefwi Wiawso reported the incidence on December 3, 2019.
The police said the team came under attack by two men armed with pump action guns at the outskirt of 290 Community near Asempaneye.
“That the team including G/Sgt. Emmanuel Chikodoh was on its way to Essam branch to escort cash to Sefwi-Wiawso branch. On receipt of this information, police immediately dispatched a patrol team to the area where they met the team with G/Sgt. Emmanuel Chikudoh who sustained gunshot wounds on the head,” the Police SITREP said.
General Sergeant Emmanuel Chikudoh was rushed to St. John of God Hospital, Asafo but the sergeant died before arrival.
His body was deposited at the same hospital morgue pending autopsy.
The service rifle of the decease has been recovered by police and all the other occupants of the bullion van escaped unhurt.
Meanwhile, police have intensified patrols at the area and its environs to get the culprits arrested.
