The Ghana Police Service have cautioned #FreeTheCitizens protesters against activities that would breach peace during their march.
The Police have said they would disperse crowds if there are reasonable grounds to believe that a breach of peace might occur in the upcoming three-day demonstration by the Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey.
The protest, set to take place from October 3 to 5, 2024, will be a procession from Okponglo, Legon, to Independence Square in Accra.
In a statement ahead of the protest, the Police emphasised their responsibility under the Public Order Act to take all reasonable measures to ensure a smooth and peaceful demonstration.
It said that the organisers were reminded of the Police’s authority to intervene if there are signs of a potential breach of peace during the event.
The Police further stated that they would assist in the proper conduct of the demonstration by directing routes to avoid obstruction of pedestrian or vehicular traffic.

“Disperse crowds at any special event where he has reasonable grounds to believe that a breach of the peace is likely to occur or if any breach of the peace has occurred or is occurring in order to prevent violence, restore order, and preserve the peace,” part of the statement read.
The statement also highlighted the responsibilities of the protesters under the Public Order Act, which include being held accountable for any damage to public property during the demonstration and ensuring that participants comply with Police instructions to maintain proper movement and order.
Meanwhile, the Police assured the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to maintain law and order throughout the demonstration and beyond.
