Police secure conviction of five armed robbers in Ashanti Region

The Ghana Police Service has secured the conviction of five armed robbers involved in a series of robbery and carjacking incidents in the Ashanti Region.

The convicts, Jeffrey Dwomoh, Clifford Opoku, Kwabena Kyei Barfour, Prince Opuni, and Henry Kusi Marfo, faced charges ranging from conspiracy to commit robbery to dishonest receiving and abetment of crime by supplying ammunition.

Mr Dwomoh and Mr Opoku, who were found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery, have each been sentenced to 120 years of imprisonment with hard labour.

Mr Barfour was convicted of dishonestly receiving stolen goods and was handed a 105-year sentence in hard labour.

Prince Opuni was convicted of reckless and inconsiderate driving and fined 350 penalty units, with a default sentence of 10 months of hard labour.

He was also ordered to pay GH¢ 5,000 for causing damage to a Police vehicle.

Meanwhile, Marfo, convicted of supplying ammunition for the robbery, was fined 1,050 penalty units, with a default sentence of 15 months in hard labour. Marfo has since paid his fine.

Two other suspects, Richard Dogbatsey and William Ansah, were acquitted of charges related to the case.

The Police have released the images of the five convicted individuals as they are no longer considered suspects but confirmed convicts.
