The Ghana Police Service has denied reports that four officers were detained for arresting a Circuit Court judge, Angela Attachie, over a traffic violation.
In a statement signed by Superintendent of Police Joseph Benefo Darkwah, the Head of Public Affairs at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Service dismissed the reports as false and without merit.
The statement clarified that the claims stemmed from a petition received on April 7, 2025, from the judge.
She alleged that on December 13, 2024, four officers from the Adenta Divisional Police Command, led by Inspector Godwin Dey, harassed and assaulted her court clerk.
Additionally, the officers wrongfully towed her vehicle from the Adenta Court Complex to the police station, and despite a formal complaint with the Adenta Divisional Command, she had not received any official response.
Following the petition, the CID initiated an investigation and invited the officers involved—Inspector Francis Adjei (No. 53349), General Sergeant Dasebre Oti Boateng (No. 53852), and Corporal Jonah Ajubulisa—to provide statements at the headquarters.
“At no point were the officers detained as has been falsely reported. We therefore urge the public to disregard the publication and treat it as false and without any basis,” the statement read in part.
Assuring the public of a continued investigation with due process, the Service also reaffirmed its support for personnel who act lawfully in the discharge of their duties, while also ensuring that any allegations of misconduct are investigated and addressed appropriately.
