Police Hospital to hold mass burial, gives families 21 day ultimatum

-

The families of some 120 unknown deceased persons have been given 21 days ultimatum from November 8 to show up at the Police Hospital in Accra to identify and claim their bodies or risk mass burial.
A statement issued by the Police Hospital said the identities of those bodies are unknown, hence urged those whose relatives have gone missing for some time now to visit the facility to check for possible identification and collection.
The bodies are that of persons who are either taken to the facility in critical conditions by strangers and eventually die or persons killed in road accidents and armed robberies among others.
The statement signed by Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Hospital, CPL Faustina Afia Nunekpeku, said if after 21 days those bodies have not been collected, they will be given mass burial.
The exercise, it said, forms part of “routine measures to decongest the Police Hospital mortuary”.
“The general public is hereby being informed to contact the pathology department of the hospital for identification of persons who might have not been seen for some time now as part of the search to avert being added to those earmarked for mass burial after 21 days of this announcement,” it advised.
