Police exchange gunshots with armed robbers at Omenako

There was a gun battle between a group of armed men and personnel from the Ghana police service at Omenako near Suhum on the Accra-Kumasi highway Tuesday dawn.

The police picked information that the were robbing a faulty parked man diesel truck with registration number GR 221-W loaded with assorted goods heading towards Kumasi.

According to the Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service,  ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, the patrol team swiftly moved to the scene and caught the robbers in the act.

He said there was exchange of fire between the police and the robbers where one William Owusu aged 17 sustained gunshot wound and a suspect driver Emmanuel Yeboah in charge of a Ford Focus with registration number GT 3371- 13 was arrested and detained.

The rest of the robbers managed to escape leaving their Sprinter bus with registration number AS 3801- 13.behind.

He hinted that, suspect Owusu is under police guard at Suhum government hospital receiving treatment.
