Police, Insurer donate GH¢ 10,000 to wife of murdered police officer

The Police in the Northern Region, led by the Regional Commander ACP Patrick Adusei Sarpong has donated GH¢5,000 to the wife of the police man shot dead by a colleague who mistook him for an armed robber..

A local insurance company, Unique Insurance Company, also presented GHC5,000 to the widow for the tragedy that befell her husband.

The late Lance Corporal Robert Ackah was escorting travellers from Tamale to the southern sector when his colleagues mistook him for an armed robber and gunned him down on the Buipe – Kintanpo road.

A police patrol team from the Brong-Ahafo region, who got wind of an armed robbery attack, had rushed to the scene to pursue the robbers, but saw Ackah with an AK47 riffle and gunned him down thinking he was one of the criminals.

He was however identified as a police officer when his Identification Card (ID) was found on him by the killers.

Speaking at the residence of the murdered police officer in Gumani, Regional Police Commander, ACP Patrick Adusei Sarpong said the service had commiserated with the family since his death.

“We wish to express our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family and to let them know that we will never leave them alone, particularly the wife and the child”.

ACP Adusei also assured them that the Inspector General of Police, COP David Asante-Apeatu will visit the family soon.

A family member, Comfort Teye expressed gratitude to the police service.

 “We thank God because whatever happened is from God – we also thank the police for being there for us throughout this trying times,” she said. .
