A 20-year-old head porter, Patience Anane, has been arrested by the police at Kwame Danso in the Brong Ahafo Region for allegedly absconding from Kumasi with a six-month old baby left in her care.
At about 10 a.m on Sunday, January 13, 2019, the mother of the baby, Abena Kubilla, left her six-month-old baby boy in the care of Patience at Kwame Antwi Lorry Station, near Race Course, to go and wash the baby’s clothes.
When she returned, the baby, together with Patience, was nowhere to be found. Consequently, she lodged a complaint with the Suame District Police.

Arrest
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Godwin Ahianyo told the Daily Graphic that following the theft and the subsequent complaint, the police initiated investigations into the issue and at about 8 p.m.on Thursday, January 17, 2019, “two young men arrested the suspect at Bantama, a suburb of Kwame Danso, in the Brong Ahafo Region, together with the baby, and handed her over to the Police at Kwame Danso.”
According to him, the police at Kwame Danso also handed over the suspect, together with the baby, to the Suame District police command.

He said the baby had since been handed over to the mother while the alleged baby thief, Patience Anane, was in the custody of the police pending further investigation and prosecution.
Mr Ahianyo expressed the command’s appreciation to the Krontihene of Kwadwo Bofour, a suburb of Yeji, and the assembly member of Bantama in assisting the police to arrest the suspect.
