Championship club, Plymouth Argyle has secured the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Michael Baidoo from Swedish side Elfsborg for a club-record, undisclosed fee.
The 25-year-old has committed to a three-and-a-half-year deal at Home Park. Argyle previously pursued Baidoo during the summer, but Elfsborg declined the move to keep him for their Europa League campaign.
The transfer fee surpasses the £1 million the club spent on Bali Mumba and Morgan Whittaker in the summer of 2023. It follows the recent sale of defender Lewis Gibson for over £1 million earlier on Friday.
Baidoo enjoyed a standout 2024 season with Elfsborg, scoring 10 goals in 27 league matches as the team finished seventh in the Swedish Allsvenskan.
He also made waves in the Europa League, netting five goals, including a decisive penalty in a 1-0 victory over Roma in October.
The midfielder has three senior caps for Ghana, further boosting his profile.
Baidoo was in attendance to watch Plymouth Argyle’s 2-2 draw with Bristol City on New Year’s Day.
