Premier League Board (PLB) chairman, Ashford Tettey-Oku has expressed worry over their inability to find a headline sponsor for the Ghana Premier League.
The nation’s elite league has been without a sponsor since First Capital Bank pulled out as headline sponsor three years ago.
Following yet another upcoming ‘sponsorless’ league season, the soft-spoken PLB chairman lamented the financial burden on the clubs as a result of the situation.
“I know this has not been easy on the clubs”, he told Sportsnetghana.com
“I have been particularly worried for all this years, thus “running a league without a headline sponsor” but the GFA are taking steps to get a headline sponsor very soon”.
“It has not been easy because if it were that easy we could have gotten one by now, so let’s keep our options open and I believe when there is one, the GFA will announce”, he added.
The Premier League clubs have been complaining about the lack of sponsorship for the competition, with most of them finding it difficult to financially cater for their teams throughout the campaign.
However, there have been speculations that the GFA has reached an agreement with a new sponsor whom it plans to unveil before the commencement of the league.
The 2017/18 Ghana Premier League season is due to commence on March 3, 2018.
