Black Stars ‘B’ assistant coach, Maxwell Konadu says player exodus is a major challenge affecting the team’s preparations towards the 2018 Chan qualifiers.
The Local Black Stars will be hoping to make their 4th appearance at the Kenya tournament.
According to Konadu, unexpected departure of players from camp to join foreign clubs is slowing down the team building progress.
“You arrange a team and before you see, players are in the embassy’s looking for Visas already. Then you have to look for a replacement and that is the challenge am facing now.
“You will be with the player for 6-8 weeks, prepare them and at the very last hour you will hear that their teams are calling them to go for trials here or there.
“Already Richard Arthur is gone playing in Angola and I have heard a couple of players that have also gone to the embassies to look for visas. So we are keeping an eye on that. When we get the full facts we will need to replace them immediately because we have done a lot of work on the, and we don’t have to waste more time on players who will leave us before the competition starts.”
The Black Stars ‘B’ have been preparing for a crucial eliminator against Burkina Faso in August for the past two months. They have engaged in several local friendlies and two international friendly matches against Benin and Gambia so far. This coming Sunday, they continue with an away friendly against Togo in Lome.
