PL Preview: Man City host Fulham as Chelsea clash with Nottingham Forest

-

Aston Villa will look to underline their rising status in the Premier League when they host Manchester United for the pick of Matchday 7 fixtures on the first weekend of October 2024.

Aston Villa will welcome Man United to Villa Park on the afternoon of Sunday 6 October, with the Birmingham side’s supporters still getting used to being a UEFA Champions League competitor – something the Red Devils can only envy from a distance.

Yet Villa’s progress of recent seasons makes a fall from grace even more painful, with manager Unai Emery determined to see his side avoid the fate of Newcastle United, who played in the Champions League last season but then floundered in their attempt to return to the elite continental competition.

“Last year Newcastle were playing in the Champions League, two years ago they were in the top four, but they didn’t get it last year for different reasons,” the Villa manager said. “This objective, we want to avoid some circumstances that could give us the same way like Newcastle or other teams in the past.

“This is our challenge, to keep the same structure and idea, being strong to be a contender ourselves to be in the top seven, top five or top four. Because our objective of course is to be in Europe regularly, consistently, and if we are in the Champions League we can achieve our dreams again.”

This round also features Manchester City playing host to Marco Silva’s highly-regarded Fulham, Arsenal will expect to beat Southampton at the Emirates Stadium, and Liverpool will target an away win over Crystal Palace – all through the course of a Saturday which is capped off by Everton hosting Newcastle United at Goodison Park.

Sunday, aside from the Villa v United game, will also see Chelsea welcome Nottingham Forest to Stamford Bridge, before Brighton & Hove Albion host Tottenham Hotspur – a clash which sees Spurs’ Malian star Yves Bissouma come up against his former team.

“I am grateful for the time I had at Brighton and all that I learned at the club,” said Bissouma. “But I am a Tottenham player and this game I will approach in the same way as any other.”
