Chelsea will welcome Arsenal to Stamford on the evening of Sunday 10 November for a clash which will serve as a measure of the progress made by Enzo Maresca and his Blues team. The Gunners are established title contenders – a status that the hosts will be striving to reach, if not this season, then at least within the next 18 months or so.

“We are a young team, a growing team,” said Maresca. “Arsenal are clearly ahead of us in their development and they have done a great job in the last two or three seasons. But we must have the ambition of beating teams like this, especially at home. We will need to play at our best level, and have the support of our fans.”

Gunners attacker Kai Havertz will, of course, be coming up against his former team and looking to underline once again that his switch from blue to red was a good one – both for his career and Arsenal.

“The change from Chelsea to Arsenal was worth it,” explained the German. “Chelsea fans were angry that I left, the Arsenal fans weren’t so enthusiastic either, because it didn’t go so well at the start. But I think now we have a much better relationship and I am very proud and happy to be a part of this club.”

Aside from the Chelsea v Arsenal match, this round of Premier League fixtures boasts some potential thrillers, including Brighton & Hove hosting Manchester City, and Aston Villa heading to Anfield for a clash with Liverpool – both on the evening of Saturday 9 November.

“When you have the ball, [Liverpool] are going to press you strongly for 90 minutes. When they have the ball, it’s very difficult to recover the ball and press them,” noted Villa boss Unai Emery.

“They have very good players, they have a very good structure and they have strong players in each position. They have very high-level players and a good bench to use in the second half, and they also have a very good coach.”
