Tottenham Hotspur will look to dent the title ambitions of Liverpool when the teams meet in the pick of Matchday 17 Premier League matches, with the round staging 10 fixtures across Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 December 2024.

Spurs will host Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London on Sunday evening, with Ange Postecoglou’s team hoping to upset the league leaders and boost their own ambitions of climbing up the log – though the Australian tactician has admitted that the Reds have been outstanding so far in the 2024-25 season.
“They’ve set a fast pace and a very high standard,” said Postecoglou. “They deserve a lot of credit for that, the players and their manager. But our focus will not be on them, it will be on our own abilities and our own game plan. What has happened in the past will not affect the outcome of this game.”
The round opens on Saturday afternoon in Birmingham with a clash between Aston Villa and Manchester City – two teams who have had their struggles of late and need a strong three-point showing heading into a very busy festive-season period.
“We believe completely in our work. We are enjoying the Champions League, and in the league we are more or less where we were [last season],” said Villa manager Unai Emery. “Our challenge is to fight and see how our level is with the opponents. There are still matches to play and we are going to recover our confidence, trying to build the team. We have to try to be better than we are being now. We can individually do better.”
Saturday also features a London derby between Crystal Palace and Arsenal at Selhurst Park, before a busy Sunday afternoon is headlined by Chelsea visiting Everton, and Manchester United hosting AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
The Blues have continued to grow in strength since their stuttering start to the season, with Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson proving to be a fantastic spearhead for their attack. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca recently paid tribute to the West African star.
“We are very happy with Nico and the way he is playing on the ball, but especially the way he is playing off the ball, the way he is pressing. In this moment we are very happy and we are sure he is going to improve and do even better game after game,” said the Italian tactician.
