PHOTOS+AUDIO: NHIS vehicle missing… Assembly members threaten to arrest management

A vehicle belonging to the National Health Insurance Scheme in the East Akyem Municipality of the Eastern region has been stolen by unidentified persons.

The Toyota Hilux Pick -Up vehicle with registration number GV 2554-14 is said to have been stolen in the early hours of 4th January, 2017 at the Health Insurance District Office in East Akyem Municipal capital, Kyebi .

Even though the criminals succeeded in taking the car away, they stopped by at Segyemasi, a nearby community, removed the number plate, canopy on the vehicle’s bucket and destroyed the NHIS stickers on the vehicle and dumped them in the bush.

The vehicle has since not been found.

Meanwhile, some Assembly members in the East Akyem Municipality are threatening to arrest management of the Scheme and hand them to the police if they do not produce the vehicle by Monday.

The Assembly members say the circumstance surrounding the incident is mysterious and they suspect some staff may have orchestrated the stealing of a state property.

Assembly member for Kyebi Ahenbronmu, Kwame Asiedu Bekoe is one of the Assembly members who wants to take action against the scheme.

According to him, they suspect foul play and therefore demand that the staff produce the vehicle as soon as possible or face their wrath.

Eastern Regional director of the National Health Insurance Authority, Alhaji Seidu Abudu Sampson disclosed to Adom News’, Maxwell Kudekor that the matter has been reported to the police and investigation is ongoing.

Even though he says this is the first time their vehicle has been stolen, he does not suspect anyone.

He however believes it is one of the usual car stealing syndicate.

Kyebi Divisional police commander DSP Mariam Osei Adu Owusu confirmed that a report has been lodged at the police station and the police are investigating the matter
