Photos: Senya Breku youth demonstrate against chief over lands

Angry youth of Senya Breku in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region have demonstrated against the Omanhene of Senya Breku Traditional area, Nenyi Ampabo Kweku Issiw, for resisting developmental projects in the area.

The youth clashed with the police who denied them access to the chief’s palace during the demonstration, leaving two injured.

The explained that the lack of jobs in the Senya Breku Township has increased teenage pregnancy cases in the area.

In an interview with Adom News, some of the youth accused the chief of hijacking all Senya lands and is selling them indiscriminately thereby preventing private developers to establish companies to create jobs.

“He [the chief] has opposed all projects in the community, forcing most of us to work outside the town to give room to armed robbers who attack us on our way back from work,” demonstrator explained.

They have, therefore, called on the Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya West Constituency, George Nenyi, to intervene in the situation to help maintain peace and order.

However, the Tufuhene of Senya Ipi Kwao Bentum has urged the youth to calm down as measures are being put in place to address their grievances are underway.
