The Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East, Queenstar Maame Pokua Sawyerr has provided an interest free loan amounting to GHC 100,000.00 to market women in her constituency.
The interest free loan, the MP said, forms part of her continuous attempt to helping the women expand their businesses. Beneficiaries will pay back in a year’s time.
According to the Agona East Legislator, the provision of the loan is in line with her grand plan to help raise the living standards of women in her constituency and in the process kick poverty out of her constituency.
The loans were giving out to the happy women at a durbar organised in various towns in the constituency.
Communities that benefited from the Maame Pokua Loans Scheme (MPLS) are Fahwia number 1, Fahwia number 2, Kofi Abbam, Kwesi Kum, Yaw Dadze, Brepo, Mensakrom and Kwanyako Sanco.
Queenstar Sawyerr revealed at the durbar that she would soon come out with an Entrepreneurs Skilled Centre which will train entrepreneurs in the Agona East constituency on business and risk management.
Some of the beneficiaries later expressed their happiness with the loan scheme as according to them, some NGOs and microfinance companies had promised them some but failed.
“We are made to spend a lot of money on documentation with a promise that we will be given financial support but this never materializes,” Yaa Alepei, a beneficiary pointed out.
She therefore commended Queenstar Maame Pokua Sawyerr, for doing a yeoman’s job.
“Hon. Maame Pokua Sawyerr is God sent person to the people of Agona East. She is loving, caring, generous and God-fearing. It’s for that reason we call her Obaatanpa,” Yaa Alepei said.
