Police in Tema are currently hunting for an accomplice in a failed robbery attempt at Community 4 on Wednesday.
The accomplice, whose details remain unknown, together with 28-year-old Malian, Awal Mohammed attempted to rob a mobile money vendor after shooting him in the leg with a Glock pistol.
According to the Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joseph Benefo Darkwa, the vendor raised an alarm prompting residents to chase the suspects.

The accomplice, sensing danger, took to his heels leaving his motorbike with registration number M-19-GR 1017 used in the operation.
“Luck, however, eluded Awal when residents arrested him and lynching him in the process,” he said.
In an interview with Adom News, he said the police received a distress call at about 4:00 pm.

“We received a distress call to the effect that two young men wielding a gun had attacked and shot a vendor in the leg and one of the suspects was being lynched. The vendor was rushed to a nearby health centre,” he said.
Police upon reaching the scene took Awal, who was unconscious, to the Police Hospital in Accra, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“The suspect Awal was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body has since been sent to the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy,” DSP Darkwa indicated.

At the scene, police retrieved a Glock pistol with six rounds of ammunition, a facemask and a motorbike.
Meanwhile, DSP Darkwa has appealed to residents to assist the police with vital information which could lead to the arrest of the accomplice.
