Motorists who ply the Tema Motorway are blaming the contractor responsible for filling the gaping potholes on the road for doing shoddy work.
The motorists have described the ongoing works being done by the contractor as death-traps.
The deteriorating nature of the motorway has become an issue of national concern to the extent that drivers and commuters threatened to demonstrate against its poor state.
The threat resulted in prompt action by government to start work to fill the potholes. A visit by Adom News to the motorway showed that the potholes were very visible and posed danger to commuters who ply the route.

The news team chanced on a long vehicle with registration number GE1797 – 11 being repaired on the side of the road.
The driver who gave his name as Ibrahim attributed the breakdown of the vehicle to the potholes.
The iron rods that were used to fortify the concrete surface are exposed at some sections due to the deterioration of the road.

The construction firm carrying out the work is using bitumen to seal the potholes on parts of the concrete overlay.
Some drivers who spoke to the news team on their visit to the motorway said the manner in which the remedial work was being done by patching has made it a death trap.

The Accra-Tema Motorway is the busiest highway in Ghana and one of the important roads in the West African sub-region.
Records show that about 35,000 cars pay tolls daily to use the route and that generates about GHc40,000 daily or GHc14.6 million annually.
