Akosombo District Command is leaving no stone unturned in an attempt to arrest seven masked men who robbed travellers at gun point after killing one between Nnudu and Aboasa in the Eastern region.
The deceased, Charles Adoboe driving Hynudai Elantra saloon car with registration number GR 3272-17 was travelling from Nungua in the Greater Accra region towards Hohoe in the Volta region with other occupant in the vehicle.
Akosombo District Commander, DSP Harrison Katso who confirmed the incident to Adom News’ Kwame Yankah said his patrol team received a distress call around 3:00 am on 1st January this year that some armed robbers with pump action guns were attacking travellers.
The patrol team which was around Asikuma rushed towards the scene but their colleagues from Ho in the Volta region who were patrolling Frankadua and its evirons at the time got to the scene before the team from Asikuma.
The robbers had however fled the scene upon sensing danger.
Narrating the incident to the police, the other occupant of the vehicle, Samuel Agea said when they got to a section of the road where it all happened, unidentified men had blocked the road using logs.
The masked men flashed torchlight to stop vehicles before taking money and other belongings from occupants.
According to him, the robbers then shot the deceased in the head after he attempted moving the vehicle.
The body of Charles Adoboe was then conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue.
With the help of the other occupant of the vehicle, the police have established contact with the deceased’s family at Nungua as part of investigations.
Though the Ho patrol team got to the scene before their colleagues from Akosombo, the case is being handled by the Akosombo command since the area in question falls within their jurisdiction.
The vehicle is currently at Frankadua police station.
