Today Thursday, May 25, 2017 is the 54th African Union (AU) Day and Ghana joins the rest of the continent in commemorating the day.
AU Day is celebrated annually across Africa to mark the formation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) on May 25, 1963, which later became the AU in 2002, to promote unity on the continent.
This year’s celebration focuses on the youth with the theme: Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investment in Youth.
A flag-raising ceremony was held at the forecourt of the State House with the Foreign Affairs Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, Gender Minister Otiko Afisa Dzabah and some members of the diplomatic corps in attendance.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also outlined a week-long programme of activities to mark the day.
