The Multimedia Group’s Adom Brands, on Friday 27th September 2024 Brands’ held a national dialogue on defending media freedom at the Kumasi City Mall in Kumasi.
The dialogue, themed “Defending Media Freedom,” brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, journalists, and regulators, to discuss strategies that will ensure the press in Ghana is genuinely free to carry out its mandate.
The event addressed challenges such as political attacks on press freedom, threats against journalists, arrests, detentions, and even torture by state agencies, including the Police, and political operatives, as the nation approaches the December 7 general elections.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, called on journalists to uphold integrity and resist taking bribes from politicians.
National Democratic Congress Ashanti Regional Secretary, Dr. Frank Amoakohene also suggested that media houses should provide Insurance cover for its journalists.
The panelists who spoke at the event included JoyNews investigative journalist, Erastus Asare Donkor, National Democratic Congress’s Abass Nurudeen , Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, National Media Commission Chairman Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafo and Dr. Daniel Nkrumah, moderated by Philip Osei.
