A driver of Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GG 1382-17, Benjamin Abasah is in police custody for knocking down and dragging a policeman on the ground at the Afienya Barrier on the Tema – Akosombo road.
A police extract on the incident indicates that Constable Lamptey and two other police officers were on duty at the Afienya police snap check point when the car driving on top speed from Akosombo direction, knocked down the barrier.

It said the crashed barrier then hooked Constable Lamptey and dragged him to about 50 meters from the barrier before the car crashed into an oncoming Toyota Tundra with registration number GR 7530-13 and came to a halt.
Constable Emmanuel Lamptey who sustained severe injuries was rushed to Tema General Hospital but died moments later.

Meanwhile, the suspect, Benjamin Abasah is in police custody and the accident vehicle has also been impounded.
Body of the deceased according to the police has been deposited at the Police hospital morgue.
