The Ahafo regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Francis Sarfo Poku, known to many as, Chairman Jerry, died in a fatal road traffic accident on Saturday at Hwidiem Government Hospital.

Chairman Jerry, together with Salifu Musah, popularly known as Shankus, another party member were returning from a party duty when they met their untimely death.

They were said to be returning from a town known as Achrensua when his Range Rover vehicle with registration number GT3150-17 veered off the road and somersaulted a number of times.

Other five occupants of the vehicle including his wife and the driver are said to be in critical condition and have been rushed to the Sunyani Government Hospital.

Below, we publish the profile of the late Chairman Jerry for your perusal:

Born at Ahafo-Kenyasi, in the Brong-Ahafo Region of Ghana on August 2, 1968, Mr Opoku Sarfo, started his basic education at the Roman Catholic (R.C.) Primary School before continuing at the R.C. Middle School where he had his Middle School Living Certificate (MSLC).

He later enrolled in Mim Timber Technical School, where he obtained his vocation.

Mr Sarfo ventured into entrepreneurship at a tender age but carved a niche for himself when he was adjudged the Youngest National Entrepreneur of the Year in 2012.

Chairman Jerry set up his own construction firm soon after school and named it after his acronym, “Sarfpok Company Ltd”, of which he remained the Managing Director until his demise.

As a soccer fan and financier, Mr Sarfo-Poku has been instrumental in sponsoring some football clubs in the country including Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Aduana Stars.

The highly religious chairman has also rendered invaluable services to the Catholic Church and other religious bodies nationwide and beyond.

He has registered at least 450 children, the vulnerable and the aged to access the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) free of charge.

Chairman Jerry contested for the position of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) but lost.

Prior to losing that election, he had twice been elected as chairman for the Asutifi North Constituency within the same region where he helped return the NPP to power.

He had also worked with the Asutifi South, District Assembly as an Assembly Member for three (3) consecutive terms.

He was elected chairman for the party in the newly created Ahafo region in May this year.
