A 33-year-old man, Joshua Asante, is in the grips of police in Tema for allegedly posing as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) who was recruiting personnel for the Ghana Police Service.
The suspect had succeeded in taking over GHC6,000.00 from unsuspecting colleague church members who want to be enlisted into the police service.
Luck eluded him when some disgruntled victims of his reported the issue to police at Ashaiman as the recruitment failed to materialise.

The police then proceeded to arrest him on 10th May and he has since been assisting in investigations.
Ghana Police Service has in the few years been bedeviled with recruitment scams by suspected personnel from within the service and fraudsters outside the service.
The arrest and further prosecution of the suspect according to the police are to serve as a deterrent to others out there who have the intention of perpetuating such criminal acts.
At a media briefing Monday, Tema Regional Police PRO, DSP Joseph Darkwa says the suspect will be arraigned before court.

“He is nowhere near the police service. He claims to be a graduate of KNUST. This claim also proves to be false. Investigations so far reveal that he has completed S.H.S level ….he will be arraigned before court”, he indicated.
Meanwhile, DSP Joseph Darkwa has sounded a word of caution to Ghanaians to desist from engaging people who claim to recruit personnel for the police service.
“We want to stress that we don’t have any middlemen who recruit for police. Therefore we are also pleading with the general public that under no circumstance should anybody pay any amount to anybody under the pretext of being enlisted into the police service”, he cautioned.
