The Church of Pentecost, Mpoasei District, is making significant strides in tackling the long-standing flooding issues in the Dansoman-Yellow House to Glefe area by spearheading the construction of a vital drainage system.
Severe floods have plagued the community during the rainy season, causing damage to homes and businesses and disrupting lives. Determined to address this challenge, the church took the initiative to construct a drainage system, estimated to cost GHS 667,000, to alleviate the suffering of residents.
In an interview with Puretvonline.com, District Pastor John Gilbert Ayamba clarified that the project is entirely financed and managed by the church, with no financial support from external parties.
“The flooding issue has been a major concern for our community, and as a church, we felt the need to take action to safeguard lives and property,” Pastor Ayamba explained.
He added that while the church informed the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, about the project, her involvement was limited to facilitating the release of equipment from the municipal assembly. Beyond that, the funding and execution remain the sole responsibility of the church.
“This is a community-driven project by the church. All funds raised so far are from our members’ contributions. No government funds have been provided,” he emphasized.
The project, which is currently underway, still requires additional financial support to be completed. Pastor Ayamba appealed to NGOs, philanthropists, and well-meaning individuals to assist in ensuring the drainage system is completed and fully operational to prevent future flooding.
“It is our hope that this initiative inspires others to contribute towards the wellbeing of our community. We can achieve so much more together,” he urged.
