Pediatric nurse at Korle Bu Department of Child Health, Constant Offei has cautioned mothers to seek medical attention for their babies with delayed teething.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Radio Reality show ‘Nyinsen Ne Awuor’, the nurse said mothers should rush their children to a dentist if their babies dont develop teeth beyond one and a half years.

Pediatric nurse explained that, babies begin from four months and at most a year thus if a child grows past a year and a half, the parents must be concerned.
“Some babies may delay in teething but that is totally normal especially if their parents experienced similar thing when they were babies”. She said
She added that, it is normal for babies to feel feverish during teething warning that mothers should avoid self medication and rather seek medical advice when I doubt.

“Every child has a unique mix of symptoms during teething. Some of these symptoms include: itchy gum, swollen gum, lack of appetite, diarrhea, and high temperature etc. Mothers must go to the hospital when in doubt about these symptoms”. She added.
Constant Offei also debunked some Ghanaians beliefs that when a child is born with a tooth it is a bad omen or unless you throw the milk teeth on a roof it will not grow.”
She says these are all superstitions that have no medical basis so Ghanaians should ignore them.

“There is no medical basis to suggest that the milk teeth will not grow if you don’t throw it on a roof. it will grow no mother how you dispose of it. It is equally normal for babies to be born with teeth from a mother’s womb. That does not make a baby a witch or wizard.”She warned.
