Peace Council’s roadmap on vigilantism undefined – Inusah Fuseini

National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Member of Parliament for Tamale Central has justified his party’s action not to accent to the code of conduct prepared with the National Peace Council on Vigilantism.

He says the roadmap was undefined.

According to Mr Fuseini, the roadmap the Peace Council presented on vigilantism among other things has not clearly defined how the menace would be tackled.

“We asked for the matter to be left to the Peace Council but we are saying they must come out with a roadmap that clearly and concisely defines how vigilantism should be tackled including sanctions,” he said.

Speaking on Joy News AM Show, Mr Inusah said the NDC did not sign because the roadmap presented did not define anything on vigilantism.

“President Akufo-Addo has not demonstrated any solid and bold commitment to the vigilantism fight and even though we are all united on the position that vigilantism was a threat to our democracy, we don’t want lip service,” he added.

The opposition NDC refused to sign the final roadmap and code of conduct document on the eradication of political vigilantism in Ghana.

But Chairman of the National Peace Council, Prof. Emmanuel Asante, sayst the Council was not worried about the party’s refusal to sign the peace accord put together by it in their bid to end political party vigilantism.

He said the Council had, however, taken notice of the NDCs concern on their refusal to sign the peace accord and will have it addressed within the shortest possible time.
