The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other political parties have announced plans to demonstrate against the compilation of a new Voters Register for the 2020 elections.
According to the parties, the demonstration dubbed ‘Yen Pene’, is scheduled for January 11, 2020 to march against the justification by the Electoral Commission (EC) on the need for the register.
“We hold the view that any attempt to spend an additional cedi of the taxpayer’s money on the new register will amount to complete wastage, needless spending of limited State resources.
“We maintain our support for the upgrading of the current Voters Register and wish to demand that the EC considers saving the nation’s resources for other social and economic related projects,” he said

Addressing a news conference in Accra on Monday on behalf of the parties, Founder of the All People’s Party (APC), Hassan Ayariga, urged the public to join them demonstrate against the EC’s move for a new Voters Register.
”We extend an invitation to the general public, Civil Society Organisations and religious societies to join us in making our voices heard against the decision of the EC to compile a new Voters Register for the 2020 general election.
“We call on all to join the ‘Y3n Pene’ demonstration across the country on Saturday, January 11 2020. We shall be in Tamale for the mega one ‘Chokosai, a Dagomba word which means we will not agree and the converging point will be the Jubilee Park,” he announced.
Political parties present at the news conference were the NDC, APC, People’s National Convention and United Progressive Party among others.
