The Parliamentary Service Board for the 9th Parliament has been inaugurated by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, in line with the 1992 Constitution and the Parliamentary Service Act.
The six-member board comprises:
- Alban Bagbin – Speaker of Parliament
- Mark Osei-Assibey – Former MP for New Juaben South
- Angela Alorwu-Tay – Former MP for Afadjato South
- Ebenezer Ahuma Djietror – Clerk to Parliament
- Mahama Ayariga – Minority Leader
- Alexander Afenyo-Markin – Majority Leader
Additionally, the two Deputy Speakers, Bernard Ahaifor and Andrew Asiamah, will serve as co-opted members.
The board’s secretary, Nana Tawiah Okyir, a director at the legal department, will be assisted by Linda Boadi Boateng.
During the inauguration, Speaker Bagbin emphasized the need to prioritize security within the parliamentary precinct, citing concerns over unauthorized access. He also stressed the importance of improving the conditions of service for parliamentary staff and enhancing parliamentary management.
He commended the members of the 8th Parliament’s board for their dedicated service.
Supporting the Speaker’s call for improved security, the Minority Leader proposed the construction of a new parliamentary chamber and a hospital for MPs and staff.
However, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga rejected the proposal, arguing that Ghana’s current economic situation does not support such an undertaking.
