Parliament to hold Speaker’s Seminal Lecture on August 31

Parliament is set to host the 2024 edition of the Speaker’s Seminal Lecture on Saturday, August 31.

The event will take place at the Dr. Andani Andan Academic Board Chamber, University for Development Studies in Tamale, Northern Region.

The theme for this year’s lecture is “Working Together, Building Trust for a Free, Fair, Credible, and Peaceful Elections 2024: The Role of Stakeholders.”

According to a press statement issued by the Public Affairs Division of Parliament, the lecture will feature Professor Kwesi Aning, a renowned scholar in security, governance, and international relations, along with Kofi Bentil, Vice President of IMANI-Africa, as the keynote speakers.

The statement highlighted that the Speaker’s Seminal Lecture series provides a platform for discussing critical national issues, aiming to enhance understanding, collaboration, and transparency in governance.

“This year’s theme underscores the significance of unity and trust among all stakeholders—political parties, civil society, the media, security agencies, and citizens—in safeguarding democratic values and ensuring peaceful elections,” the statement emphasized.

The event is expected to gather Members of Parliament, government officials, representatives from political parties, civil society organizations, academia, the diplomatic community, and the media.

“We anticipate a thought-provoking and impactful lecture that will promote collaboration and trust among all stakeholders as we strive for free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections in 2024,” the statement said.
