Parliament blew an opportunity to sanction Ken Agyapong – Amaliba

A member of the legal team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba, has stated the Parliament of Ghana blew another opportunity to sanction its own member, Kennedy Agyapong, on Thursday, February 14, 2019.

The Member of Parliament for the Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong was reprimanded by his colleagues in Parliament and asked to go and sin no more.

A magnanimous gesture which came after Ken apologized to the parliament for the second time after calling them cheap.

Speaking on Joy News’ AM Show on Friday, lawyer Amaliba explained a great opportunity which came for Parliament at a point to say never again should Kennedy Agyapong behave in that way was not left to go.

“Once again, they have lost the opportunity to punish their own member. They have disappointed the people who voted them there because Kennedy Agyapong is one person whose conduct has been questioned by every well-meaning Ghanaian including his own constituents,” he said.

However, lawyer Amaliba stated Mr Kennedy Agyapong should have been sanctioned instead of being reprimanded by the house.

“We have one person who has a history and reputation and can insult everybody including the president. He keeps making parliament look bad but this opportunity came and they blew it away”.

“Let us just assume they even wanted to go for the second option which was to reprimand would anybody in his right senses who watched what happened in parliament yesterday come to a fair conclusion that the apology rendered by ken was an apology,” he added.

Lawyer Amaliba emphasized Mr Agyapong’s conducts is unacceptable and so the house when given the opportunity to discipline him should have gone the full haul.
