Parliament begins investigation into Akosombo Dam Spillage

-

Parliament has established a 7-member bipartisan ad hoc Committee to investigate the Akosombo Dam spillage, nine months after the disaster.

Among other tasks, the committee will make recommendations, and if the House is satisfied with these, they will be forwarded to the Executive to ensure the safety of the citizenry.

The Committee will be chaired by Alhassan Sanid and will include five other Members of Parliament, along with a technical member.

Announcing the Committee in Parliament, Speaker, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin said they cannot remain idle in the face of a disaster that has left residents destitute and caused havoc to property in over 32 constituencies along the Volta Lake.

He added that, the investigation aims to uncover the truth and provide justice to the affected communities.
