Parliament approves Omane Boamah as Defence Minister-designate

Parliament has approved the nomination of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah as the Minister-Designate for Defence.

This approval came after the House debated and adopted the ninth report of the Appointments Committee.

While the committee unanimously recommended Dr. Omane Boamah for the role, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin raised concerns over the conduct of the Clerk of the Committee, accusing her of omitting some key submissions of the nominee in the report.

Speaker Alban Bagbin condemned the attack on the clerk, urging the use of appropriate channels to address such concerns.

In another development, Parliament on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, approved the nomination of Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as the Minister-Designate for Lands and Natural Resources, along with three regional ministers-designate.

The approved regional ministers-designate are:

  • Tia Ibrahim – North East Region
  • Dr. Frank Amoakohene – Ashanti Region
  • Akamugri Atanga Donatus – Upper East Region

The approval followed a thorough vetting process where the qualifications, experience, and suitability of the nominees were assessed.

These newly appointed ministers-designate are expected to lead development initiatives in their regions and work with local authorities to implement government policies and drive socio-economic progress.
