-

Spokesperson for two of the people who were shot and killed at Pai Katanga, a community in the Oti Region, Frank Agyari, has detailed the circumstances that has led to their deaths.

The deceased were part of some six people who were shot by unidentified assailants during a funeral service in the area.

Speaking on Adom FM‘s morning show, Dwaso Nsem on Monday, Mr Agyare said while they were at the funeral, they got wind of people who were brandishing guns in the town thereby raising the need for police protection.

But even before they could arrange for police from Dambai Divisional Police Command, Agyare said had already occupied strategic positions and had started firing guns.

Agyare said he was with his father when the guns started but he was advised to take cover by his father but as the gunshots intensified, he he decided to come out for further observation only to be told that his father had been shot and was lying down motionless.

Shortly after hearing the news of his father being shot, Agyare said he heard police sirens approach and when the police got to the scene, they put in a police car so they could take him to the hospital.

But even before the police vehicle could move, Agyare said his uncle who is the immediate junior brother of his father and his father’s other junior brother who is their last born, were all rushed to the car with gunshot wounds.

Agyare’s father died while the vehicle was on its way to the Worawora Government Hospital, he narrated.

Mr Agyare explained that the shooting could be due to a protracted chieftaincy dispute spanning over 12 years in the area, saying he believed the shooting was targeted at wiping off an entire family.

“As I speak, of all the four people I brought to the hospital, only one is alive but the body of four people are at the morgue as another brother who came from the over-bank was also shot dead instantly,” Agyare narrated.
