Paebo explosion: Former MCE wants assembly members complicit jailed

-

Former Municipal Chief Executive of Nsawam Adoagyiri in the Eastern region is calling for the prosecution of assembly staff whose operations led to the explosion at Peabo which killed and injured many.

According to Mark Dompreh, the quarry site was being operated illegally by a business man who had no license when in fact the assembly had collected 44 thousand cedis from the company.

On the 24th of December, 2015, there were heavy explosions on the site which created fear and panic in the area.

The blast from a quarry site belonging to A.K.Y Mining Services Limited along the Adeiso road occurred as a result of a naked fire getting into contact with ammonium dynamite.

The devastation caused many injuries while substantial properties were lost through the accident.

A welder, Ibrahim Mohammed, 38, met his untimely death when he was caught in one of those explosions.

Ministerial Committee set up to investigate the explosion recommended a ten-year ban on the operations of A.K.Y Mining Services Limited which is still operating.

Reacting to the issue, Mark Dompreh who was the MCE at the time on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Wednesday expressed shock at the incident.

He indicated that, the assembly had no record of revenue collection AKY Mining Services as stated in the report.

“I’m shock because I had no idea the quarry was operating because it is opposite my house” he bemoaned.

As a matter of urgency, Hon. Mark Dompreh called for the prosecution of all assembly staff whose negligence led to the explosion.

He bemoaned how technocrats in the various Municipal and District Assemblies hide things of such sensitive nature from the political heads.

“I never trusted my Coordinating Director, Sampson Kwateng operated very clandestinely” Mr. Dompreh added.
