The National Identification Authority (NIA) has revealed that more than 600,000 printed Ghana Cards, dating back to 2018, remain uncollected at its regional and district offices.
In a statement dated February 18, 2025, the NIA announced that it has received 700,000 blank cards to address a backlog of unprinted cards from 2023.
The newly acquired blank cards will be used to print pending records, including first-time issuances, card replacements, and updates to personal information.
To expedite the process, Acting Executive Secretary Wisdom Kwaku Deku has set up a technical team to fast-track printing and ensure the cards are sent to district offices for issuance.
The NIA has, therefore, urged the public to collect their unclaimed Ghana Cards, which have been idle for years.
Additionally, the authority assured the public that it is developing an efficient system for distributing the unclaimed cards, though details of the plan remain undisclosed.
