Former Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Wilfred Osei Kweku Palmer, has insisted that Otto Addo is not the right man to steer the Black Stars.
The 49-year-old coach has faced intense criticism following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking the first time in two decades that Ghana has missed the tournament.
Under Addo’s leadership, the Black Stars managed just three draws and suffered three defeats in their six Group F matches, finishing last.
Overall, the senior national team recorded only two wins out of 14 games played during the 2024 football season, with Addo at the helm for 10 of those games.
Osei Palmer argued that the team’s poor performance undermines Addo’s credentials as the right man for the job.
“I’ve always been clear with my opinion on Otto Addo (that he is not the right man),” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show. “If you look at the results that he has been producing, do you think he is doing well?”
“We said Kwasi Appiah should be sacked because he was not good, but he is the one who has helped Sudan to qualify for the 2025 AFCON and beat us in the process,” he added.
Following the Black Stars’ disappointing AFCON campaign, the GFA has yet to announce its plans regarding Otto Addo, who signed a three-year contract in March 2024.
The national team will return to action in March 2025 for Matchday five and six of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, facing Chad and Madagascar.
