Otto Addo apologises for Black Stars’ AFCON qualification failure

-

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has apologised to Ghanaians following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana finished at the bottom of their group with just three points, managing three draws and suffering three defeats.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chad on Friday, Addo took responsibility for the disappointing campaign while urging unity among Ghanaians.

“Surely, I’m the head coach, but I think we are all in this together. It’s not only about me. When we win, we all win, and when we lose, we all lose. I really want to say sorry for what happened. Especially in the home games, the most important thing missing was the goals,” the 49-year-old said.

Addo also expressed gratitude for the support the team has received and called for continued backing.

“I need everybody, and I want to thank you all. The country has given us support—the president, the sports minister, and everyone,” he said.

The Black Stars will face Chad in Kumasi on Friday before travelling to Morocco on Monday for their final group match against Madagascar.
