A leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, says though the Electoral Commission (EC) has made a strong case for a new register, it has failed to address concerns over the timing of its decision.
“The EC has made a strong case (on cost and integrity) for a new register. But, for me, concerns about timing still not well addressed,” he posted on Twitter.
His comments follow a mammoth demonstration by some political parties to protest against the compilation of a new Voters Register.

Odd: same register some parties & civil society groups demonstrated against yesterday, another set of parties & CSOs are demonstrating today to protect.

This is the only time in Ghana’s history that the main opposition party is fighting against a new voters register – to replace the one compiled under its watch.
