Twenty-five years ago, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II ascended to the stool as the Omanhen (Paramount Chief) of the Oguaa Traditional Area in Cape Coast, bringing with him a vision for progress and development.
Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, known in private life as Joseph Kwamena Sekum Haizel, was born on Saturday, January 20, 1940, in Cape Coast to George Kodwo Haizel and Mary Esi Haizel (Esi Bentuma) of Fiekessim. He hails from the Fiekessim lineage of the Nana Birempong Cudjoe Ebiraze Royal Family Stool.
His academic journey began at the Government Boys’ School, Cape Coast, and continued at Adisadel College.
He pursued accountancy at the School of Administration, Achimota, and later at the College of Commerce and Distribution in Glasgow, Scotland, where he became a certified Professional Accountant.
Before ascending to the stool, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II had a distinguished career in accounting and administration, serving at prestigious institutions like the Internal Revenue Service, Deloitte and Touché, Mankoadze Fisheries Limited, and Wayyss & Freytag.
His expertise and leadership skills prepared him for his royal duties.
In private life, Osabarimba is known as a promoter of peace, an educationist, a sports enthusiast, an administrator, an advocate for traditional values and a philanthropist. He is often described as having a great sense of humour and being able to connect with people from all walks of life. He is married with four children.
On July 17, 1998, Joseph Kwamena Sekum Haizel, was installed as the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area and the 9th occupant to the Nana Birempong Cudjoe Royal stool with the title, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II.
After 25 years, Cape Coast comes alive with excitement as Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II celebrates his silver jubilee on the throne.
This milestone coincides with the 60th anniversary of the iconic Oguaa Fetu Afahye (festival), an annual celebration of the area’s rich cultural heritage.
This year’s celebration is poised to be the most spectacular yet, featuring an unforgettable showcase of Oguaa’s rich traditions, vibrant music and exceptional artistry.
The festivities will culminate in a magnificent durbar, bringing together chiefs, people and esteemed guests, including the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for an unforgettable experience.
