Organised Labour’s galamsey-induced nationwide strike politically inspired – Kofi Akpaloo

-

The Presidential candidate for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has claimed that the planned nationwide strike by organised labour against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, is politically motivated.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM on Monday, Mr Akpaloo questioned the motivations behind the strike, which he believes goes beyond concerns over the environmental damage caused by galamsey.

He suggested that, the protest is timed and designed to serve political interests rather than addressing the real issues associated with illegal mining.

Mr Akpaloo argued that, the actions of Organised Labour seem more focused on advancing a political agenda than safeguarding Ghana’s natural resources.

He also raised doubts about the sincerity of the labour leadership, suggesting their decisions might be influenced by political forces aimed at undermining the current government.

He further expressed concern that the strike, given its proximity to upcoming elections, could heighten tensions in an already charged political environment.

Kofi Akpaloo urged labour leaders to seek constructive dialogue instead of engaging in confrontational actions, highlighting the potential consequences of their approach.
