The President of the University of Ghana chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UG-UTAG), Prof Ransford Gyampo has criticised the leadership of Organised Labour for calling off the planned nationwide strike.
The labour union on Wednesday called off the strike which was to start on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
The General Secretary of Trade Union Congress (TUC) Joshua Ansah who announced the decision said it follows a meeting with the government to discuss enhanced measures to strengthen the fight against galamsey.
In a post on Facebook, Prof. Gyampo said he was disappointed with how the leadership handled the meeting with government officials.
According to him, the meeting on Wednesday was for the leadership to brief members on the government’s new proposals.
However, the leadership of organized Labor refused to listen and before they could make further suggestions, an already prepared speech was read to the media, announcing a suspension of the strike.
He added that, the meeting was rancorous, acrimonious and ended in disunity.
