Private legal practitioner and Member of Parliament(MP) for Manhyia South Constituency, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has slammed Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), calling it fundamentally flawed.
His comments follow remarks from Daniel Domelevo, a member of the ORAL team, who emphasized the need for an independent and thorough financial and procurement audit to verify the allegations of corruption.
The former Auditor-General, Mr. Domelevo, clarified that ORAL lacks the legal mandate to conduct independent investigations, and as such, the relevant agencies must carry out forensic audits before any legal action can proceed.
But in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the NPP lawmaker expressed strong reservations about ORAL’s effectiveness.
“The work is much ado about nothing. Domelevo himself said there should be investigations before anything is done. ORAL has been a complete waste of everyone’s time. It is fundamentally flawed, and it will not lead to meaningful progress,” he said.
He further added that ORAL has been a “waste of time and national resources.”
“If the retrieval of ORAL money were indeed true, we could come out of the IMF program. It would mean taxes would go down, Free SHS would bounce back, and jobs would increase in the country,” he argued.
When asked if the recoveries outlined in the report would be easy, Mr. Awuah responded skeptically, stating, “This report will only be used to witch-hunt the opposition, not to fight corruption. The Auditor-General won’t do a yeoman job on this.”
