A one-year-old girl, Ellise Akyedia Agyapong, who resides at Kenyasi in the Ahafo region with her parents has successfully undergone a hole-in heart surgery in India.

This was through the benevolence of Understand Mining Alliance(UMA) who catered for the surgery cost of GH₵140,000.00.

In an interview with Adom News, Ellise’s mother, Portia Opoku said they had lost all hope after exhausting all their funds to seek treatment.

Portia said treatment was capital intensive and as a result, a lot of parents are not able to foot the bills of their children with such a condition alone.

Aside the financial burden and distress, she bemoaned the patient also go through severe pains as the condition affects their breathing.

She expressed gratitude to God for  the swift intervention of UMA in saving her daughter as she appealed to the government, well-meaning individuals non-government organisations (NGO) to emulate their worthy course.

Portia made these remarks when she presented Ellise to her benefactors following her successful procedure and recovery.

Meanwhile, Nora Sam, the Administrator of UMA said saving lives is a priority to the company as part of efforts in giving back to the society.

They were therefore inspired to help little Ellise though her parents are not their workers and they are grateful to God they offered the help at the time they did.
