One dead after gunmen attack Binduri Sub-Chief’s palace

-

On the night of Wednesday, April 9, 2025, gunmen stormed the palace of a local sub-chief in Poayamire, a village in the Binduri District, leaving one person dead and two others wounded.

The victims have been identified as Naba Atamburi, the sub-chief, and two of his family members, all of whom were shot during the attack.

The injured individuals were rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for urgent medical care.

Tragically, one of the victims succumbed to their injuries while being transported to the hospital. The other two victims remain in critical condition and are undergoing treatment.

The motive behind the attack is still unclear, but many residents speculate that it may be linked to the ongoing violence in the Bawku area.

Tensions have been escalating in the region, particularly following an alleged police shooting that resulted in the death of a civilian.

The conflict in Bawku, which reignited in October 2024, has claimed at least 83 lives, with the death toll continuing to rise.

The recent attack on the sub-chief’s palace has further raised concerns about the potential for the situation to spiral out of control, threatening the already fragile peace in the region.

Although security forces have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, investigations are underway.

Authorities are working to restore calm as the community deals with the aftermath of yet another act of violence linked to the ongoing Bawku conflict.
